Hawaii: No more Obama birth certificate inquiries!

Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle signed into law Wednesday a bill allowing state government agencies not to respond to follow-up requests for information regarding President Obama's birth certificate.

It's good those agencies will no longer have to waste time and money mailing back the same form letter over and over again to people who request copies of the president's birth certificate without a legal right to it. Hawaii is forbidden by law from releasing that information to the public without Obama's permission -- Obama will never give permission (I won't give permission for people to see my birth certificate on file with my state's Vital Records dept. either), and it's silly that the State of Hawaii would have to keep telling the "birther" inquirers, "Sorry, we're not allowed to show you other people's private birth records."

This law is also good because it is further "proof" to the birthers that Obama is trying to keep people from finding out that he wasn't really born in Hawaii -- and there's nothing that conspiracy theorists love more than government agencies refusing to release information upon request. Thus, this law will make a lot of people really, really happy.

Obama will never give permission

Wouldn't you give permission if the legitimacy of your presidency were called into doubt? I guess not, if your presidency didn't meet this legal requirement and those who cared enough to question it were an ignorable minority fringe tarred with the "lunatic" label.

Only if it were called into doubt by my friends and allies. If it were called into doubt by my political enemies, then I wouldn't want to do anything that would help them and at best do nothing at all to help me. Instead, I'd just go about my business and let my political opponents make themselves look unhinged.

Good point. This reminds me of the old retort:

"Are you trying to make me look foolish?"

"You don't need any help from me."
